Skin Care Tip – SPF

The warm summer months are quickly approaching.  Now more than ever, we would like to stress the importance of applying a daily SPF of at least 30.  Doing this helps reduce the risks of skin aging, cancer, and other harmful effects from the sun.

When choosing the right sunscreen for yourself, we absolutely understand how confusing it can be. Hard to pronounce ingredients and flashy advertisements make shopping for sunscreen too difficult. So, we are here to educate you on what you need to know to protect your skin from the sun and its damaging effects.

We are sure by now the terms “Helioplex Technology” and “Avobenzone” (also referred to as Parsol 1789) sound somewhat familiar to you, but do you know what these ingredients are and why they are important elements to have in our sunscreen products? Helioplex Technology is a combination of ingredients Avobenzone and Oxybenzone. With these ingredients combined they offer you the maximum amount of sun protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Before Helioplex Technology was developed, the majority of sun protection products on the market offered protection against UVB rays (the burning rays of the sun that produce mild sun burns), with little to no amount of protection against UVA rays (the rays that contribute to aging of the skin.) Not only is Helioplex technology in sunscreen important, but the ingredient Avobenzone is what you are primarily looking for.  That ingredient alone is what makes a sunscreen able to have and use the term “broad spectrum protection”. The only important thing to remember when using sun protection with Avobenzone is that you must reapply every 2 hours. The same goes with the Helioplex Technology and any other sunscreen in order to maintain the best protection against the elements of the sun.

Some of our favorite SPF’s that include Avobenzone are:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock SPF 55 with Helioplex Technology

La Roche Posay Ultra-Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 60

DML Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 25

All of these products are available for sample at our office. If you would like additional information on proper skin care protection, please feel free to give us a call at 609-975-6565 and we would be more than happy to meet with you and discuss your skin care needs.
